Notes

I first heard about Twisted Tree while hunting for Imperial Stouts in England. They’re a small, family‑run microbrewery in Oxfordshire, and since they only open once a month - and we weren’t around for that - I picked up a bottle from a nearby farm shop they recommended.

On to the beer…

It comes in a 500ml bottle and pours very flat — and honestly, it is a flat beer. Nothing wrong with that, just an observation.

The aroma promises a proper bitter, dry Impy Stout, but the flavour leans heavily into coffee territory. The coffee presence is strong, no getting around it.

There’s also something else lingering in the background that I couldn’t quite place. Not unpleasant, not off‑putting — just… different. Maybe that’s the zesty citrus, aromatic pine they mention in the tasting notes?

I’d have preferred a fuller body, but it’s not a deal breaker.

What is a deal breaker is the price. I paid £7.50 at the shop they pointed me to, and that’s simply too much for what’s in the bottle.

Is it “worth” £7.50? That’s for someone else to decide.

Would I pay that again? No.
