I found this one at Morrisons and it seems to be a new launch by the Northern Monk guys. Beautiful can, really eye catching.
It is a bit sweet, but not like driking liquid maple…Obviously it was expected given the clues in the label: Rich, Divine, Chocolate and Maple. Take a hint…
Didn’t find it syrupy and the carbonation dissapeared pretty quickly, didn’t end up flat, and has a good consistency for an Imperial Stout.
So, it is sweet, but what bothers most is again that strange taste found in these type of beers and I can’t really place it: Is it cough syrup weird? Is it cheap plasticky chocolate?
The ingredients list mentions having Cacao Emulsion, Natural Flavourings and Milk. I am 99% it’s not the milk ruining it, so which one of the others is it?
By the way, I didn’t find any maple taste at all. I even went as far as sipping a spoonfull of maple syrup to compare them side by side and nothing. Again the most prominent taste is that strange stuff that I personally do not enjoy.
Unfortunately this is another big NO for me, and will stick with their fantastic Oath variant.
