Notes

I visited the Monday Night Brewing Garage on a very quiet weekday and ended up spending a good chunk of time chatting with a genuinely welcoming bartender. I worked my way through the darker, stout‑leaning beers they had on tap, and a pattern started to emerge: everything leaned noticeably toward the sugary side.

I had half a pint of something I can’t quite remember (BA Drafty Kilt, maybe?) and brought home bottles of Tie XIII and 7 Deadly Stouts to give them a proper try later.

The pour was darker than tar and flatter than a tyre after driving through England’s pothole‑filled roads — visually dramatic, but not exactly lively.

I don’t want to knock the effort that clearly went into this beer — there’s craftsmanship here — but it was simply too sweet for my palate. The sweetness sat on top of everything else, like a heavy blanket, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that it was hiding whatever more interesting traits might have been underneath
